Off of the West Coast of South America, there is a small island that many people today know as Easter Island. The island is triangular in shape with a subtropical climate. The temperature ranges from 86º F in January and February to 57º F in July. The annual precipitation received in this island is 45.2 inches. This is not much rain but it is enough to keep the plant life going. The water that the people use, comes from various places. It comes from wells, pools, and crater lakes in the island’s three extinct volcanoes.

Even though there is a descent amount of rain, there is not much life on the island since the soil is stony. The main characteristic of the island is its stones since that it was was used to make the statues. The only vegetation that could be on the island and is on the island is grass and this covers the entire island making it very beautiful. The negative about not having any trees or bushes is that it means that there isn't a lot of animal life on the island due to the lack of shelter. The few animals on the island are one species of lizard, some species of land birds and a few species of rodents. So the people on the island mainly eat fish from the radiant waters around the island. They also grew sweet potatoes on the island as well.

The people live modest lives with no stress on the future but just living each day as it comes. Occasionally they have meetings to discuss with the people what problems they are facing and how it can be fixed. There is a freedom of religion which lead to no fights amongst the people.  Even though there are many religions on the island they all use the same technique to commemorate the dead. Whenever somebody passes away the Hujumbos make tiki figures called moai out of igneous rock to remember those who died. While they were on the island they not only made statues of those who died there, but also those who died before. In the end there are about a thousand.
