Brainstorming Tasks

1.      Choose five places, building or havens within the community that you feel are important to your story in the development of your world.

-School

-Hospital

-Town Hall

-Market

-Farms and Quarry

2.  For each place, write a descriptive detail about it. You may mimic writing from a book we have read this year to help describe the world to others.

The school is where the kids learn about life rather than education skills. It is like the skills that Matilda’s school learns

The hospital is not very good and is like a hospital in Mister Pip. It would not be very well educated and most people would die.

Town hall is where people would hold conversations about town decisions. Each person has the same right like in Mister Pip.

The market is where people could buy food such as fruits and vegetables. It is small and does not offer much food.

Farms and the Quarry are where people work and make a living. This could be compared to all of the books we read because people were split up into two different groups depending on their choice.

3.      Find or create a picture that is appropriate and helps create the environment of each place. You may link to create a backyard paradise from Off the Map to help you create your own vision.

We are going to make a poster board and bring it into the class on Monday

4.
Identify any characters or objects that might be important to your story. For example, in Lord of the Flies world a conch or Piggy’s glasses would be important or in the world of Great Expectations a file would probably need to be placed in the story. Don’t forget, the objects don’t just exist in blank space. A book would probably be found on a table, in a drawer, on a book shelf or some other object.

We are going to use Mr. Wallace from Mister Pip in our story. We are going to portray his character in the teacher on the island. He or she is going to teach about life lessons rather than book smarts.
